Wallace Kerr Tyrie (1892-1976)


Gateshead man served with Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers


Along with his older brother Colin, Wallace joined the Inniskilling Fusiliers in 1914, rising to the rank of corporal. On his discharge at the end of the war Wallace returned to the north east and in June 1925 married Annie Mills. The following year Wallace, Annie and their young son, also called Wallace emigrated to Canada on the SS Montroyal making for Saskatchewan. The family, now with three young boys, returned to England in 1931 and made their home in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Wallace Kerr Tyrie died in Newcastle in September 1976.
