Contributing to and using the Durham at War website


This page forms the terms and conditions under which you may use and link to this website.

Note that, by using this website, you are indicating your acceptance to be bound by these terms and conditions.

Summary

We welcome contributions to the Durham at War website.

All the information you submit should be relevant to County Durham (as defined by its historic or present day boundaries) and the First World War.

We will moderate the contributions you submit via ‘Add a story’ or ‘Update this story’ before they are published.

Please indicate, where possible, the location and reference of sources that you have used from museum, library, archive, community and private collections when researching your ‘story’. This will benefit others with an interest in this project.

On the last line of your contribution please let us know how much time you have spent as a volunteer researching and submitting your ‘story’. This helps us to report to the Heritage Lottery Fund on the success of this First World War Centenary project.

We reserve the right to edit, or not publish, submissions that include copyrighted material used without permission, incorrect information that could mislead others, content considered not relevant to this project, and offensive or defamatory material.

Comments are published live but may be removed if we receive a report of inappropriate content.

We will publish your contributions on the Durham at War website under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) Licence. This means that users can download content from the website and share it with others, as long as it is credited, but they cannot change it in any way or use it commercially.

What we do with any information which you send to Durham at War, either through electronic forms on the website, or by email to Durham County Council:

  • We will keep information for no longer than we reasonably believe is necessary
  • We will use use information only for the purpose for which you sent it
  • We may use information for statistical analysis but in such a way that your identity is not involved

The Durham at War site is owned, designed and maintained by Durham County Council in partnership with the Heritage Lottery Fund and Reading Room Ltd.

Durham County Council is not responsible for the content of any websites which this site provides links to.
