Former Durham Light Infantry Battalion in Hornsea, 1916


In this photograph of B Company, 87th Training Reserve Battalion, taken in Hornsea in 1916, the tents are marked like “Stores”, “Signalling” and “Co. Office B”.

Seated on the front, the three soldiers also appear marked with their names: seated left is 68321 Company Sergeant Major (CQMS) Williams, from Front Street, Rainton Gate; in the centre Lieutenant W. G. Lane Sear, from Australia; and on the right Company Qartermater Sergeant Gaines.
