Leslie Howard Turner (1899-1919)
Surrey man who served in 20 DLI died and is buried in Cologne
Leslie Howard Turner, the son of Ernest Ryman Turner and Minnie Turner nee Trowles was born in Kingston-on-Thames, Surrey in 1899. He had four brothers and two sisters.
Very little can be discovered about his service history. At some stage he enlisted in the 2/7th Battalion, Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding) Regiment and was later transferred to the Durham Light Infantry (DLI), firstly to the 11th Battalion and then to the 20th Battalion. He died in the 44th Casualty Clearing Station in Cologne on 26 March 1919, but the cause is not known, and he is buried in the Cologne Southern Cemetery.
