Edward Wilson was born the son of Thomas Wilson. He may have been born in Middlesbrough, seeing as in the 1901 cencus, he is recorded as living at Ormesby, Middlesbrough. However, on his attestation form, signed on 10 December 1915, there are two addresses shown, 29 Mount Street Middlesbrough and 22 Warwick Street, Gateshead. His attestation form lists him as a Machine Fitter. His father Thomas is recorded as a widower. Edward joined the 1/5th Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry as Private 201131. He was killed on 23 April 1917 and is commemorated on Bay 8 of the Arras Memorial.
