George Henry Taman (1897-1917)
Rotherhithe man served with 13th and 15th DLI commemorated on Arras Memorial
George Taman was born in 1897 in Rotherhithe to Henry (a dock labourer) and Sarah Taman. He was their only son and third child of four. Throughout his life he lived at 18 Luxford Street, Rotherhithe. He attested 10 February 1916 and joined the Kings Royal Rifle Training Reserve as Private 31027. His occupation is given as apprentice compositor. George was mobilised 29-Jul-1916 and posted to 14th Battalion King’s Royal Rifle Corps. In December 1916 he was posted to Durham Light Infantry as private 53147. George was killed in action on 10 April 1917.
