John Muir (1898-1917)
Scotsman served in the 1st/6th DLI commemorated on the Arras Memorial
John Muir, the son of Hugh and Helen Muir, was born in Campbeltown, Argyllshire in 1898. He had three brothers and four sisters. He enlisted at Campbeltown and originally served in the Argyll Mountain Battery but transferred to the 1st/6th Battalion Durham Light Infantry. He was killed at the Battle of Arras on 14 April 1917 and is commemorated on the Arras and Campbeltown Memorials and in the Durham Cathedral Book of Remembrance.
