Joseph Lazzari (1879-)


Newcastle man served with Durham Light Infantry and was part of the regimental band


Joseph Lazzari was born in St Andrews, Newcastle, in 1879.
He enlisted 2nd Battalion Durham Light Infantry and was part of its band playing the bugle. He was later posted to 3rd Battalion Durham Light Infantry in South Shields, becoming a Company Sergeant Major.
He served in France where he was wounded in the left arm in 1914.

When his time expired in 1917, Lazzari was retained in the Army under the Military Service Act until he was discharged in 1919.
