Sermon addressing St Hild's students

Newspaper article from Newcastle Journal

Many past and present students attended the annual re-union on Saturday of St Hild’s College, at Durham. Holy Communion was celebrated in the beautiful College Chapel during the morning, when Canon Haworth (South Hetton) and the Rev. J. H. How took part, and Canon Lillingston delivered a powerful sermon.

The reverend gentlemen dealt with the work of the teachers, from the religious point of view, in an interesting way, and remarked that woman was coming into her own. Upon women’s shoulders, and into their hands, was being committed more and more a great share of the burden of the life of the country. The results and effect of the work in which teachers were engaged was immeasurable. At a meeting later in the day, the Principal of the College, Miss Eleanor Christopher, gave an encouraging resume of the work of the seminary.
