This is an interesting photo as it shows the battle patch being worn as Green over Red. On cigarette cards of the time the battle patch is shown as red on the left and green on the right. A photo in Gateshead library shows Corporal Maylia with the battle patch worn Red over Green.

It is possible that it was used as a company indicator; the way the patch was worn indicating the wearer’s company.
