The 11th Durham Light Infantry In Their Own Names
by Martin Bashforth
The story of the 11th Battalion DLI. Originally raised in September 1914, as part of Kitchener’s New Army, this battalion became the 20th Division’s Pioneer battalion in January 1915. Martin Bashforth, whose grandfather served in 11 DLI, has used the battalion’s war diary plus personal accounts taken from letters, soldiers’ diaries and newspapers, to tell the story of this little-remembered battalion. The book also contains photographs, maps and a roll of honour.
