Joseph Ramsay (1891-1958)


Coal miner from Brandon served in the Royal Field Artillery


Born in Brandon, Joseph Ramsay was one of five children born to William Armstrong and Anne Ramsay. He worked alongside his father and older brother, William, as a coal miner at Brandon Colliery. He served with the 51st Brigade Royal Field Artillery, entering Germany with them on 25 November 1918. Joseph came home in January 1919 and returned to work as a miner at the colliery. He remained working at the colliery until his retirement and died in April 1958.

His granddaughter, Josephine, has written Joseph’s story, including photos of him, which can be found in the supporting items below.
