Robert Thompson (1879-1917)


Yorkshire man served with 1st/6th DLI commemorated on the Arras Memorial


Robert Thompson is thought to have been born in Knottingley, Yorkshire in about 1879. He first enlisted in the 13th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers and was later transferred to the 1st/6th Battalion Durham Light Infantry (DLI). He was killed at the Battle of Arras on 14 April 1917 and is commemorated on the Arras and Knottingley Memorials and in the Durham Cathedral DLI Book of Remembrance.
