Edward Teasdale (1881-1917)
Sheffield man served with 15th DLI commemorated on the Arras Memorial
Edward Teasdale, the son of Thomas and Mary Teasdale, was born in Sheffield in 1881. He had a brother and two sisters and in June 1913 married Mary Ann Travis. He was a commercial traveller for a firm making bicycles and lived in Sheffield all his life until he enlisted in the East Yorkshire Regiment at Hull in December 1915. He was posted on 9 June 1916 and, in November, was appointed lance-corporal. On 18 December 1916 he landed in France. He was then transferred to the Durham Light Infantry, serving first in the 14th Battalion and, later, the 15th Battalion. He was killed at the Battle of Arras on 10 April 1917 and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, in the Durham Cathedral DLI Book of Remembrance and the Sheffield Council Official Roll of Honour.
