William Henry Murr (1893-1917)
From Gateshead, served in 15th Battalion DLI, killed in action at Arras
William Murr, the son of George & Laura Louisa Ann Murr, was born in Gateshead in 1893. He had four brothers and five sisters and lived in the Felling district of Gateshead all his life.
William enlisted in the 12th Battalion Durham Light Infantry and later transferred to the 15th Battalion DLI. He was killed on 10 April 1917 during the Battle of Arras and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, the Durham Cathedral Book of Remembrance and a Gateshead church plaque.
