Frederick William Hodgson Taylor (1891-1917)

Darlington man served with 1st/5th Battalion DLI commemorated at Arras

Frederick William Hodgson Taylor was born in 1897 in Cinderly, Yorkshire (according to Soldiers Died in the Great War, all other sources state Darlington). He was the son of Mark and Elizabeth Taylor who married around 1895. In 1911 the family comprised Mark (aged 37), Elizabeth (aged 36), and their seven children. They lived at 4 Four Riggs, Darlington, where Mark was a labourer at a local iron works. From the 1911 census, it seems that Frederick was known by his second name, William.

Frederick William enlisted in Darlington and joined the 1st/5th Btn Durham Light Infantry as a Private (200582). He was killed on 23rd April 1917.
