Thornaby man served with 1st/5th DLI commemorated on Arras Memorial
Harry Lawrence was born in 1894, the son of Caroline Lawrence of 5 Cranworth Street, Thornaby on Tees. He enlisted at Stockton on Tees into the 1st/5th Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry (DLI) as a Private (220392). He was killed on 23 April 1917 and is commemorated on Bay 8 of the Arras Memorial. His mother received his effects of £2 5s 6d and a gratuity of £10 10s on 26 July 1919.
