William James Earley (1891-1917)
Wiltshire man served with 1st/6th DLI commemorated on Arras Memorial
William James Earley was born in 1891, the son of Richard and Charlotte Earley (nee Wheeler) in Colston, Wiltshire. His father was a general labourer. William James had two sisters, Florence (born 1893) and Dorothy (born 1894), and a brother, Charles (born 1894). The family later lived at Edlington, Westbury, Wiltshire and William James worked as a farm labourer. He enlisted as a private (273098) in 1st/16th Battalion Durham Light Infantry. He died on 14 April 1917 and is commemorated on bay 8 of the Arras memorial. He was awarded the Victory Medal.
