William James Earley (1891-1917)

William James Earey was born around 1891 in Coulston, Wiltshire as one of 4 children, 3 of which were still living with their parents at the time of the 1911 census. His father was Richard Earley, a farm labourer. His mother was Charlotte Earley. Of the three children still living with their parents, WIlliam was the oldest, following his father in his profession as farm labourer, as did his younger brother Charly.
William enlisted in Trowbridge, Wiltshire and joined the 1st/6th Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry as Private 273098. His Battalion was posted to France, where William was killed in action on 14 April 1917. He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Pas-De-Calais, France. For his services, he was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
