Robert C. Clewes (1896-)
Sacriston man served with 1st/8th DLI, won Military Medal
Robert Clewes first entered France on 19 April 1915. The London Gazette recorded that he was awarded the Military Medal on 9 December 1916.
The obituary of Robert’s brother, Christopher, from Chester-le-Street Chronicle mention that Robert was also awarded a Bar to the Military Medal – so far no evidence has been uncovered to support this.
