In 1975, a resident of Barnard Castle presented some photographs to the DLI Museum. Some 60 years before, on 24 September 1915, he had been taken by his mother to the town’s railway station to watch the departure of the 17th (Reserve) Battalion DLI. You can see him here in the centre of this photograph being carried by his mother.
