Military Wedding of Major Frederick Walton to Olive Richardson

Auckland Chronicle report

Military Wedding

The marriage took place quietly by special licence at the Norton (Stockton) Parish Church, on Tuesday, of Major F. Walton, 6th D.L.I. (T.F), second son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Walton, The Willows, Crook, and Miss Olive Richardson, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. W.T. Richardson, Gulval, Norton-on-Tees.

The officiating clergy were the Rector of Norton (Canon Scott) and the Rev. R. J. L’E. King, Curate of Holy Trinity, Stockton, a personal friend of the bridegroom. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a navy blue travelling costume, and hat to match, and carried an armful of roses.

The bridesmaids were Miss Rhoda Richardson, and Miss Elsie Walton, sisters of the bride and bridegroom respectively; and the best man was Capt. J. Hare of Howlish Hall, Bishop Auckland. After the ceremony the wedding party, which consisted of relatives only, had breakfast at the Trevelyan Hotel.

The happy couple were the recipients of numerous gifts.

The bridegroom was a lieutenant in the 8th Durhams prior to the outbreak of war, and received his captaincy soon afterwards. He went out to France in April, 1915, and was wounded at the second battle of Ypres. He returned to the front last Christmas, and was recently promoted to Major. He is now home on leave.
