Photographs of nurses and soldiers at Etherley VAD Hospital
Ellinor Caldwell nee Walton's photographs
While working as a nurse at the Etherley VAD Hospital, Ellinor Caldwell nee Walton collected together a series of photographs which documented her war-time experience. According to her family, she was a keen amateur photographer and it some of the photographs in her albums were her own work.
This selection from her collection, which has been arranged into an “album” and attached to this page, shows nurses in their VAD uniforms and soldiers who were convalescing at Etherley hospital. The soldiers can be seen in their “Hospital Blue” uniforms and bearing bandages, eye-patches and crutches.
