George Price (1892-1919)


Private in the Royal Defence Corps was buried in Harelaw Cemetery


Little is known of George Price’s early life. He became a private in the Northumberland Fusiliers and served as Private 23/988. He was wounded in 1916. He then transferred at some time to the Royal Defence Corps (RDC) with the new service number 72015. The role of the RDC in World War One was to provide troops for security and guard duties inside the UK for example guarding ports, bridges and prisoner of war camps.

George died on 2 February 1919 and was buried in Harelaw Cemetery in grave 10 C 105. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission noted his next of kin was his wife Mary Price living at 12 Woodbine Terrace, New Kyo.

George Price was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal for his service in World War One.
