John Bulmer Williams (1896-1917)


Brushmaker from Stockton served with 1st/5th DLI commemorated at Arras


John Bulmer Williams was born around 1896. At the time of the 1911 census, he was living at 11 Farrer Street, Stockton, with his grandmother, Mary (aged 69), a brother, Charles George (a single stonemason) and a sister, Esther Marie (a single dressmaker). John Bulmer worked as a brushmaker. He enlisted in Stockton and joined the 1st/15th Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry as Private 200402. He arrived in France around 27 June 1915. He was killed on 23 April 1917 and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial. His brother received his effects of £3 17s 9d and a gratutity of £10 10s.

He was awarded the Victory and War Medals, as well as the 1915 Star.
