Frederick Samuel White (-1917)


Darlington man served with 1st/5th DLI commemorated on Arras Memorial


From “Soldiers who died in Great War”, Frederick enlisted in Darlington (no date is given). He was private 201033 1st/5th Battalion Durham Light Infantry (DLI). He was killed in action on 23 April 1917 and, according to Register of Soldiers effects, he left a widow, Elizabeth A White. He was awarded British War Medal and Victory Medal. Frederick is remembered on the Arras Memorial and in the Book of Remembrance, of 5th Battalion DLI in St Thomas’s Church, Stockton.
