John Edward Shaw (1875-1917)
Brickyard worker from Darlington who with 1st/5th DLI commemorated on the Arras Memorial
John Edward Shaw, who was the son of William Dickinson and Mary Ann Shaw, was born in Darlington in 1875. He had two brothers and five sisters. He lived in Darlington all his life and was working in a brick works when he joined the 1st/5th Battalion Durham Light Infantry at Stockton-on-Tees. He was killed at the Battle of Arras on 23 April 1917.
