Peter McVicar (1889-1917)


From Scotland, served with 1st/5th Battalion DLI, killed in action at Arras


Peter McVicar, the son of Niven and Jane McVicar, was born in Kirkmichael-Glassary, Argyllshire in 1889. He had one brother & four sisters.

He joined the Argyll Mountain Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery, at Rothesay and was later transferred to the 1st/5th Battalion Durham Light Infantry, where he rose to the rank of Lance-Corporal.

Peter McVicar was killed in action on 23 April 1917 at the Battle of Arras. He is commemorated on the Arras and Rothesay, Isle of Bute, 1914-1918 Memorials, and in the Durham Cathedral and St Thomas’ Church, Stockton-on-Tees, Books of Remembrance.
