Sidney Luck (1895-1917)
From Howden le Wear, served with 15th Battalion DLI
Sidney Luck was one of fifteen children of Mary and Septimus Luck, who lived in Howden le Wear. He was baptised in Willington and worked in a brickyard and as a miner.
Aged 19, Sidney Luck volunteered in September 1914 and joined the 15th Battalion Durham Light Infantry. He was sent to France in September 1915 and was wounded in the foot in November 1915 but returned to the front line in February 1916. Sidney fought in the Battle of Arras in spring 1917 and was killed in action on 5 May. His body was never found.
