John William Marshall (1888-1917)


Miner from Consett joined 1st/6th DLI commemorated on Arras Memorial


John William Marshall, the son of John and Mary Jane Marshall, was born in Burnhope in 1888. In 1891 he was living with them all in Witton Gilbert. By 1901 his father had died and he was living with his mother in Collierley. In 1907 he married Margaret Ann Kirkup and they had two children. In 1911 he was a hand putter living in Consent. He joined the 1st/6th Battalion Durham Light Infantry and was killed at the Battle of Arras in April 1917.
