Angus Mackinnon (1898-1917)


Man from Argyll served with 1st/9th DLI commemorated on Arras Memorial


Angus Mackinnon was born to Angus and Isabella (known as Bella) at Campbeltown, Argyll in around 1898. The couple had four children but only two survived beyond infancy, that is Angus (junior) and his sister Morag (or Marion).

The 1901 census shows his father had died so his mother, Bella, was head of the household at Saddell Street, Campbeltown. Also living with the family was his uncle, Robert Mitchell.

Angus enlisted at Rothesay. He was wounded and later reported missing on 23 April 1917.

He was 19 years old.
