Alfred Durrant was born on 20 November 1897 in Pitsmoor, Sheffield. He was the son of Alfred Charles and Emily Durrant. He was baptised into the Church of England on 5 December 1897. The family lived at 1 Court, 2 House Green Lane, Sheffield. He joined the 1st/6th Battalion Durham Light Infantry as a private (250706). He was killed on 14th April 1917 and is commemorated on Bay 8 of the Arras Memorial. He was awarded the Victory and British War Medals.
