Alfred George Cotton was born in 1888, the son of Henry E. and Mary Ann Cotton of 156 Finnis Street, Bethnal Green, London. His mother is recorded as a charwoman.
By 1911 the family had moved to 13 Hamilton Road, Herne Hill, London, Alfred was working as a green grocer.
He enlisted at Lambeth and joined the 1/6th Battalion Durham Light Infantry. He was killed on 14 April 1917.
He was awarded the Victory and War Medals. He is commemorated on Bay 8 of the Arras Memorial.
