William Albert Graham (1887-1917)
Tow Law Butcher enlisted in 1st/8th DLI is commemorated on Arras memorial
William Albert Graham, the son of John and Phillis Graham, was born in Tow Law on 5 June 1887. He had four brothers and four sisters and lived and worked with his parents in Dan’s Castle. He married Mary Slee on 18th June 1914 and they had two children.
On 8th December 1915 he enlisted in the 5th (Reserve) Battalion Durham Light Infantry at Stockton-on-Tees and was mobilised on 7th August 1916 when he was transferred to the 1st/8th Battalion. He was killed on 25th April 1917 at the 2nd Battle of the Scarpe.
