William Thompson (1898- )
Chester-le-Street man served with the Royal Naval Air Service
William was born in 1898, the youngest of four children of Mary and William Thompson, a domestic gardener. By the time he was conscripted on 30/1/1918 the family were living in Gosforth, Northumberland and William was working as an instrument maker. This presumably influenced his posting to Royal Naval Air Service as an Air Mechanic. He entered the RNAS and received his initial training at Wormwood Scrubs and Crystal Palace Naval Air Stations then was posted to Bristol. He transferred to the RAF as Air Mechanic Class3 on 1/4/1918 and was demobilised and transferred to the RAF reserve 3/5/19.
