Albert Victor Seery (1889-1915)


Gateshead man served with 2nd Battalion Durham Light Infantry


Albert Victor Seery was born in Gateshead, where he was living on 31st December 1907 when he enlisted the Durham Light Infantry. On 3rd January 1908 he joined the Depot DLI.

He was later posted to 2nd DLI, moving to Cork with this battalion on 1st March 1908. After being stationed there, he moved to Fermoy (21/1/09) following the battalion again and then to Colchester (19/1/11). There, he trained with the DLI and got a third class education certificate on 25th May 1912.

Just before the war, Seery was sent to Litchfield on the 17th of January 1913. During this period, he was in hospital several times, both in Litchfield and Newcastle.

On the 8th of September 1914, Private Seery entered in France. In August 1915, he was recorded missing and later presumed killed in action on the 9th of August 1915. He does not have a known grave but is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial.
