Robert Dargue (1883-1917)
Chester-le-Street man served with 2nd Durham Light Infantry
Robert Dargue was born in Bearpark, County Durham in 1883. He moved with his family to Stanley and then Chester-le-Street, where he got married to Susan Ann Owers in 1904. They had had three children by 1911, by which point they had moved to Beamish. Four years later, Robert enlisted into the 2nd Durham Light Infantry (DLI) in Chester-le-Street. By that time they had four children and lived in Pelton Fell.
As a private, he was sent to serve in France in 1916. He was killed in action on 17 June 1917.
Robert Dargue is buried in Philosophe British Cemetery, Mazingarbe (I. R. 41) in Pas de Calais, France.
After his death, his remaining personal articles were sent to his wife: a tobacco box, his purse and a cap badge.
