George Henry Taylor (1884-1952)


Durham Light Infantry private from Bishop Auckland


George Henry Taylor was born in Bishop Auckland, where he lived with his family. He got married in 1908 and moved with his wife to Salisbury Place in the same town.

He was living there when he enlisted into the East Yorkshire Regiment on 10 December 1915. He was numbered 35715. He was later posted to the 8th East Yorkshire Regiment and then transferred to the Durham Light Infantry (DLI), being renumbered as 44176. He served with the 4th, 10th and 1/7th battalions during the German Offensive. In May 1918, he was taken prisoner when he was serving with VI Platoon, B Company of 1/7th DLI. He was discharged 29 March 1919.

He died in Bishop Auckland 12 November 1952.
