Woodside was used during the First World War as the 6th Durham Voluntary Aid Detachment Hospital.
This hospital (50 beds) was originally established on 16 November 1914 in the Friends’ Meeting House in Skinnergate, Darlington. It transferred to Woodside (75 beds) on 15 September 1915. The hospital closed on 31 July 1919.
