Stanhope

A military wedding. – A military wedding of some local interest took place at Stanhope Wesleyan Chapel yesterday, when Sergt. Johnson, of Stanhope Military Camp, let to the altar Miss Vasey, of Stanhope, who has been companion to Mrs Walton, of Stanhope House. Sergt. Butterfield was best man. The bride was given away by Mrs Walton. Miss Clara Thompson was bridesmaid. The ceremony was performed by Rev W Wallace, London, and Rev J K Grice, Stanhope. The service was fully choral, and there was a large congregation. A well-attended reception followed at Stanhope House. A large marquee had been erected in the gardens and grounds, the guests included 140 soldiers from the military camp. The presents were alike numerous and costly.
