SERGT ROBERT YULE KILLED IN ACTION

Mrs Yule, of Hawthorn Terrace, Durham, has received the sad intelligence that her husband Sergt. Robert Yule, has been killed in action. Sergt. Yule was for a number of years band sergeant on the Wellesbey Training Ship, and about nineteen years ago succeeded to the appointment of band master at Earl’s House Industrial School, Durham. During his stay at Earl’s House, Mr Yule brought the band up to a high level of efficiency. Many capable musicians owe their training to Mr Yule. On the formation of the Durham Bantams Battalion, Mr Yule obtained the appointment of bandmaster, and on the recent disbanding of the bands passed into the ranks as sergeant. He took part in the big push as stretcher-bearer, and was killed in action about a week ago. Sergt. Yule leaves behind a widow and two young daughters, to whom our deepest sympathies are extended in their sad loss. A keen and enthusiastic gardener, Mr Yule owned one of the Margery Lane allotments for many years. He was a son of Mr John Yule, of 57 Church Way, North Shields.
