13th Battalion Durham Light Infantry were stationed at Aldershot in late November 1914 when inclement weather made their tented camp near Pirbright in Surrey untenable. Khaki uniforms did not arrive for the battalion until Febuary 1915 so recruits were required to wear blue serge uniforms which were referred to as “Kitchener Blue”.
