At Darlington
Field day promoted by the Railway Athletic Club

Something in the nature of a field day is to be held under the auspices of the Darlington Railway Athletic Club on the Brinkburn Road Grounds on Saturday, 28 July, the outstanding feature of which is to be a cricket match between teams composed of lady munition workers, representing different departments of the shell shops. This, in itself, is sure to be a great attraction, but it is only one amongst others. It is expected that the match will commence at 3 o’clock and close at 5.30, when an open-air whist drive will be held over a period of about two hours, to be followed by dancing. Tea will, of course, be served during the afternoon.

It is also proposed to hold a bowling competition on the bowling green for the junior members of the club, and a bowling at the wicket test, whilst for the children it is hoped to arrange races and the like.

The proceeds are to be devoted to the needs of the club, which requires all the support it can obtain. The munition shop girls have entered enthusiastically into the selling of tickets and the making of preparations for the big day…
