Brancepeth's Great War
The story of a village during World War One
This book was researched and published as part of Brancepeth’s commemoration of World War One.
In 2013 the Heritage Lottery Fund awarded a grant to the Brancepeth Archives and History Group to encourage research into several aspects of this tiny village in the First World War. A VAD hospital was established in the Castle and over 4,000 wounded soldiers passed through its doors. The poet and composer Ivor Gurney was a convalescent patient at Brancepeth Castle in March 1918.
